Eco-Town nightmare a step closer
Residents of Marston Moretaine have reacted angrily to reports in the Sunday Times 17th August
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article4547602.ece that Whitehall insiders were predicting that the Marston Vale in Bedfordshire would be one of three leading contenders for a proposed eco-town. Residents rejected comments that the Marston Vale eco-town proposal has significantly less local opposition that other eco-town proposals.
The MMETAG organised a public meeting on 9th July attended by the local MP Nadine Dorries and District Councillor Darren Tysoe to which more than 200 local people attended.
Residents had feared the nightmare scenario that Marston Vale would be included – suspicious that the real agenda was a new town rather than an eco-town linking Milton Keynes and Bedford.
Chair of MMETAG said “These reports have reinforced our unambiguous opposition to the eco-town proposal and we will be bringing forward plans for direct action so that the strength of opposition is heard loud and clear in Whitehall. Public reaction to the eco-town proposal remains hostile with residents thinking eco-towns are simply a bad idea questioning how green their credentials will be. Residents have no desire for gold, silver or bronze in this eco-town race!”
