Just weeks after the Developer of a proposed Eco? Town was repeatedly accused of failing to advertise their roadshows in the Marston Vale, the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) announces another consultation on the proposed eco?-town with just 8 days notice and chooses to only inform the Parish Council.
Despite repeated complaints from local communities that there is no real consultation the DCLG has booked three consultation events with no advertising or communication with those directly affected, appearing instead to try and sneak in and out of Marston Moretaine with as little notice as possible.
The DCLG has chosen not to use the village hall amenity and hence communicate directly with affected communities, preferring a location (Forest Centre 7th and 8th November) used by hundreds of people who do not live locally. In addition one roadshow is in Bedford (Harpur Centre 8th November), despite the vast majority of the proposed new town being in Mid Bedfordshire affecting places such as Ampthill and Flitwick far more.
Hugh Roberts Chair of MMETAG said “The DCLG have chosen to skulk in the Forest Centre afraid to face hard questions from villagers. The roadshow in Bedford is ridiculous as the eco-town would be largely built in Mid Bedfordshire. The roadshows are only limited to exploring eco town criteria with leading questions in a desperate and cynical attempt to manufacture support for a proposal detested by local people”.
