Mayor demands local decision on Covanta

Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson has written to Eric Pickles MP,Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, regarding the Infrastructure Planning Commission.

In his letter he seeks an assurance from Government that in the period before new legislation formally abolishes the IPC, it will not be allowed to take on applications, in particular Covanta’s proposal for Rookery Pit.

Since sending this letter, the Government has said that Ministers will take on the decision-making power of the IPC for major infrastructure projects.

The Mayor will continue to argue that the decision should be made locally and will be bringing together soon interested parties once again to talk about how we can take the campaign forward.

MMAG will be there to help in the Mayors campaign. Click Here to view letter.
