MMAG in support of Initiative by Parish/Town Councils to form joint response to Covanta

MMAG were delighted to attend an exploratory meeting on September 7th in the Sports Pavillion Marston Moreteyne of concerned Town and Parish Councils keen to compile a joint response in opposition to the Covanta Planning application.

At the meeting chaired and initiated by Sue Clark, Chair of Planning for Cranfield Parish Council there were representatives from Flitwick, Marston, Toddington, Lidlington, Aspley Guise, Leighton Linslade, Houghton Regis, Stewartby, Brogborough, Streatley and Cranfield as well as Central Beds Councillors, Alan Bastable and Roger Baker.

From the range of views expressed the following was agreed:

(1) That a working party would be formed to read the Covanta submission, and prepare a joint draft response.

(2) That the response would be based on issues of local impact, where the PC/TCs have local knowledge and expertise such as transport, landscape, temperature inversion, noise & light pollution, the proposed waste catchment area and ecology.

(3) That the draft would be circulated to PC/TCs for approval and signature. It was also agreed that, it will be vitally important to ask members of the public to register on the IPC web site, once registration opens. PC/TCs will be key in helping us to get people to register. There will also need to be much publicity surrounding the registration process. It was also agreed that it will be necessary to lobby Central Beds Councillors to oppose this application.

As always MMAG would be delighted to hear from those who wish to help in any forensic examination of the Covanta application. At first sight the quantity of documentation published on the IPC website can seem overwhelming: but much of it is repetitive, legalistic and material already familiar to the Community Liaison Panel.

MMAG will be delighted to assist in this joint endevour and will keep you informed of progress.

But for now well done Sue and Cranfield !
