Covanta Update – Notice of Land Possession around Rookery Pit for works granted by DCO

Following on from the CLP Minutes MMAG was advised that Covanta-Veolia had also issued the following update:

“Covanta and Veolia have today (Monday 31st October 2016) taken the first steps towards implementing the planning consent for Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility.  Covanta has served notices on land owners of plots within the boundary of the Development Consent Order (DCO) planning consent that will enable them to exercise their rights to treat (i.e. negotiate) and to take possession of the land via compulsory purchase.  Over the next few days CVA will be formally taking possession by fencing off the plots of land ready to undertake certain works consented under the DCO.  This includes land owned by Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire Councils, the Highways Agency, Hanson (owner of the former brickworks land) and FCC (owner of Stewartby Landfill Site) as well as other smaller organisations and private landowners.  Statutory compensation will be paid to the landowners in accordance with legislation.”

Residents have already observed notices with maps posted around the site to this effect and land plots have been taken possession of since 15th November 2016. Please Click Here to view pictures taken by a local resident.

Please note these notices are not part of the Environmental Permit.  Residents and interested parties will still have an opportunity to object to the Environmental Permit in 2017.
