Whilst working through the surprising Forest Centre turbine application we came across the following useful information from the RSPB which we will be following up:
“Rookery Pit comprises two brick pits created through mineral extraction and is situated adjacent to the Marston Vale Millennium Country Park. Since extraction ceased the site has transformed into an important wildlife site with reedbed, pools and larger stretches of open water. This has formed Rookery Pits into one of the best bird sites in Bedfordshire. Bittern and waterfowl use it in winter and Garganey, Ringed Plover, Lapwing, Snipe and important species breed there in the Summer. Many of these species are likely to move between the two sites”.
